One is often told that a memorial should inspire solemn reflection. A World Apart manages something rarer: it inspires contemplation without descending into melodrama. Nestled along Savannah's riverfront, its split globe is both striking and restrained, suggesting a world literally and figuratively divided by war. Rather elegant, really. Walking between the two halves, where the names of Chatham County's fallen are inscribed, one is reminded that history is at its most profound when it concerns individuals rather than abstractions. The monument resists spectacle in favor of quiet dignity, and that restraint is precisely what gives it emotional weight. As someone with an appreciation for thoughtful design and, admittedly, for a well-executed symbolic gesture I found A World Apart refreshingly intelligent. It asks nothing more of its visitors than a moment of reflection, yet leaves them with considerably more. Five stars. One only wishes more memorials understood that true eloquence rarely needs to raise its voice.

May 10, 2026 · Google ReviewIn a city full of cool monuments this one is a must see if you’re a fan of history. Beautiful spot right down along the river. Give yourself plenty of time to wander around down here as there is so much to see. Great shops, restaurants, and bars all around the area. Everything is walkable and most of it is dog friendly
Mar 22, 2026 · Google ReviewA memorial for the lives lost during World War II. Its literally a globe split in two. A common spot for performers to gather and put on a show. A unifying monument in a city / state with a conflicting past. Can't miss it while walking down the Savannah Riverwalk. Very calm and tranquil area - right opposite to where the Georgia Queen is docked.
