If you ever visit Savannah, stop bt the "underground" First African Baptist Church to see how the slaves built this Church & has been preserved to this very day! The original pews & stained glass is a sight to see. They have original etchings & heartwarming 💕 to know they had a spirit within that could never be broken by a whip! You feel their spirits of pride & endurance. Please, please visit this tour for only $18

The First African Baptist Church is an outstanding stop for anyone interested in African American history. The historical markers are well presented and provide meaningful insight into the church, its founder, and the resilience of Savannah’s Black community. Be sure to visit the plaza across the street as well. It expands the historical experience by recognizing the Haitian soldiers of African descent who fought in the 1779 Siege of Savannah and later helped lead Haiti’s fight for independence. We also appreciated the historical markers highlighting individuals such as Jonathan Bryan, whose support of Andrew Bryan’s ministry helped shape the church’s early history, while also presenting the broader and more complex story of Georgia’s colonial past. Together, these sites offer a thoughtful, educational, and balanced look at the people and events that helped shape Savannah. We left with a much deeper appreciation of the city’s rich and layered history.
