City Market is one of my favorite places in Savannah, and it feels especially meaningful with America’s 250th anniversary approaching. This district traces its roots back to the late 1700s, when it served as Savannah’s public market for farmers, merchants, and shoppers. While the original market buildings are gone, the area still feels like a gathering place for the city. The string lights, historic streets, local shops, galleries, restaurants, and live music create an atmosphere that is both nostalgic and timeless. It is easy to imagine generations of Savannahians coming here to meet friends, do business, celebrate holidays, and enjoy the city. Whether you’re grabbing a drink, browsing local art, listening to music, or simply taking an evening stroll under the lights, City Market captures a little bit of what makes Savannah special. As America approaches its 250th birthday, places like this are a reminder that some communities have been part of the story almost from the very beginning. Minus one star for occasional downtown chaos.
Jun 23, 2026 · Google ReviewIt was worth going through, but I guess the hype made me think it would be more. There were a few nice shops, restaurants/bars and the Prohibition and Pirate museums. It is worth walking through, but don't plan an afternoon for it.
Apr 3, 2026 · Google ReviewCity Market is one of Savannah’s most vibrant and enjoyable spots to explore. It’s full of life, music, art, and great food, all set within a charming historic atmosphere. Walking through the market, you’ll find local boutiques, artisan shops, galleries, and plenty of places to grab a snack or a meal. The open-air layout makes it easy and fun to wander around, and there’s almost always live music or street performers adding to the energy. It’s a perfect place to relax, people-watch, or pick up unique souvenirs you won’t find anywhere else. Whether you’re visiting during the day or at night, City Market has a friendly, welcoming vibe and truly captures the spirit of Savannah. A must-see!
Nov 30, 2025 · Google ReviewIf you're into people watching, having a meal, and live music this works. If you're expecting an open air food market atmosphere then you'll be disappionted.
