We had heard a lot of about Leopold ice cream and thought to give it a try. But what we didn’t know was we had to set aside 1-2 hours for this. The line was super long and extending up to 2 blocks on the sidewalk.! But it was worth the wait. Ice cream is yummy and the store has a lot of memorabilia from when it began business back in 1900s. We got the chocolate, coffee and vanilla flavors. Pro tip: 1. downtown location is busier than the others. 2. You can get the pint sized containers from the side door without being the line.
Jul 19, 2026 · Google ReviewSome places serve ice cream, and then there are places that have become part of the history and character of an entire city. Leopold’s Ice Cream is unquestionably the latter. After visiting this legendary Savannah institution, I can completely understand why it has such a devoted following and why it is considered a must-visit destination. The ice cream itself is phenomenal. Rich, creamy, incredibly smooth, and packed with flavor, this is clearly premium ice cream made with care rather than something mass-produced and forgettable. There is an impressive variety of flavors, and being able to sample different options before making a decision is a fantastic touch. The quality and depth of flavor really set Leopold’s apart. But what makes Leopold’s truly special is that the experience goes far beyond the ice cream. Walking through the doors feels like stepping into another era. The classic soda fountain, vintage fixtures, old-fashioned atmosphere, and Hollywood memorabilia create an incredible sense of nostalgia. There is an authenticity here that is increasingly difficult to find. You aren't simply stopping for dessert, you're experiencing a genuine piece of Savannah history. And you can feel that history. Founded in 1919, Leopold’s has been part of Savannah’s culinary identity for generations, and the Broughton Street location does an exceptional job preserving that legacy while continuing to produce its ice cream using family recipes and traditional techniques. The staff were also fantastic. Friendly, welcoming, and efficient despite the obvious popularity of the shop. Even the long line outside somehow adds to the experience because you know you're waiting alongside people who have all heard the same thing: you can't come to Savannah without trying Leopold’s. Even so the line moves efficiently and the staff go out of their way to make the experience enjoyable. And honestly, the wait is worth it. There are plenty of places where you can grab a scoop of ice cream without standing in line. But there aren't many places where you can enjoy an exceptional dessert while surrounded by more than a century of history, a beautiful old-fashioned soda fountain, and the unmistakable charm of Savannah. Leopold’s isn't simply an ice cream shop. It's a Savannah tradition. If you're visiting the city, I would strongly recommend making this a stop on your itinerary. Whether you're a serious ice cream enthusiast, a history buff, or simply someone who appreciates an authentic and memorable experience, Leopold’s delivers on every level. Leopold’s has outstanding ice cream, an incredible atmosphere, and wonderful hospitality. A true Savannah landmark.
Aug 8, 2026 · Google ReviewLeopold’s Ice Cream in Savannah is truly a magical place with an incredible atmosphere inside. The ice cream was absolutely delicious — I tried the lavender flavor, and the texture was unbelievably smooth and delicate. I also tried their famous Tutti Frutti flavor, and it was amazing to taste recipes that have been loved since 1919. The whole place feels like stepping back in time. Even the chandeliers and wall lights have such elegance and charm, and the 1950s music playing inside makes the experience even more special. Definitely one of the most atmospheric ice cream shops I’ve ever visited.
May 28, 2026 · Google ReviewIf you're visiting Savannah, don't miss Leopold's Ice Cream on Broughton Street! The pistachio ice cream was absolutely delicious, packed with real pistachio pieces that give every bite the perfect crunch. We also tried the banana and vanilla flavors, and they were both rich, creamy, and full of flavor. Every scoop we had was amazing! The staff was friendly, welcoming, and provided excellent service, making the experience even more enjoyable. It's easy to see why Leopold's is such a Savannah favorite. Definitely worth the wait!
Jul 3, 2026 · Google ReviewUpon arriving in Savannah’s food district... the anticipation was high as we approached Leopold's Ice Cream. The long line outside, marked by a vibrant neon sign, hinted at the establishment’s storied past. Once inside, the queue moved swiftly, confirming the spot’s historical presence . We ordered our ice cream, selecting from a variety of flavors. Unfortunately while the flavors themselves were respectable, the sweetness was subdued, and the portion size felt average. The ambiance was a delight, filled with vintage movie posters and camera equipment, transporting us to an era of classic cinema and photography. Despite the minor average ice cream portions , the experience was enjoyable. However, the overall rating did not quite reach the lofty heights of five stars suggesting a return with more reservations. RATINGS & LOGISTICS: - Atmosphere: 10/10 - Food Quality: 7/10 - Service/Flow: 8/10 - Value: 4/10 - Would Return: Yes. Coming back.
