Savannah City Hall is one of the city’s most recognizable landmarks, standing proudly at the head of Bull Street where downtown meets the river. Designed by Savannah architect Hyman W. Witcover and opened in 1906, the building replaced the old City Exchange and became the first structure built specifically to serve as Savannah’s municipal government. Its Renaissance Revival design, granite and limestone exterior, grand columns, clock, and gold-leafed dome give it a civic elegance that feels perfectly suited to Savannah — historic, formal, and unmistakably photogenic, especially glowing at night.
