We stopped at Monterey Square on a Sunday morning around 11:00 AM while walking through Savannah’s Historic District. It was mid-February, about 60 degrees, cloudy, and noticeably less crowded than peak season — which made it easy to take our time. Street parking in Savannah is free on Sundays, but spaces near the squares fill quickly. It took us about 10 minutes of circling before finding a spot. Once parked, everything in this area is very walkable. Monterey Square is centered around the Pulaski Monument and surrounded by historic architecture. If you’re interested in Revolutionary War history, this is a meaningful stop — General Casimir Pulaski is honored here, and interpretive plaques provide context. The square itself is shaded, landscaped, and easy to navigate. It’s also located near several well-known Savannah landmarks, including the Mercer-Williams House (from Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil) and Congregation Mickve Israel. Forsyth Park is just a short walk away, making this square a logical stop on a broader walking tour route. From a tourism standpoint, Monterey Square works well as: • A quick historical pause • A photo stop • A quiet break between larger attractions • Part of a self-guided Savannah square tour It’s not a destination that requires a long visit, but it’s a solid addition if you’re exploring the Historic District. This square is the closest to Forsyth Park. It is home to the Casimir Pulaski monument. Nice area to walk around. There is limited parking nearby which tends to get filled very quickly especially when there is an event happening in Forsyth Park. Lots of people walking around this area and lots of vehicular traffic around the square.
