If you’re walking along Savannah’s historic riverfront, don’t skip Rousakis Plaza Echo Square. At first glance, it looks simple — just a circular brick design with a bold “X” in the center overlooking the Savannah River. But this spot is way more interesting than it seems. I stopped here mainly for the river views. It’s a peaceful place to watch cargo ships glide by, listen to seagulls overhead, and take in that classic Savannah waterfront atmosphere. If you’re traveling with kids (I had my toddler in tow, so I get it), it’s an easy open space where they can move around while you soak up the scenery. Now here’s the part most visitors miss — and I almost did too. Walk to the very center of the circle. Stand directly on the “X.” Speak in a normal voice. What happens next is wild: your voice echoes right back to you, but people standing just a few feet away can’t hear it the same way. It’s a quirky acoustic phenomenon that locals love, and it’s such a fun, unexpected Savannah experience. It’s free, quick, family-friendly, and right in the heart of the Historic District near River Street shops and restaurants. If you’re exploring downtown Savannah, add this to your walking route. I visited River Street Sweets. I bought the best Pralines and Bear Claws I've ever eaten. Afterwards I sat on the Harbor and watched the Queen and other tour boats come and go. I then attempted to get a shot of the Waving Girl,due to construction I couldn't get close enough. First thing ,next visit though.It was a wonderful vacation day.

WE went on a Bike tour (which was Phenomenal) and Trolley all day and neither mentioned this Square. It was a MUST see fun moment that we entertained ourselves AND invited passer by's to try it as well. SO FUN for all ages 🙂

I’ve been coming to River Street for 24 years and never knew about this spot until this past week. It’s insane! Definitely an anomaly you have to check out. If you happen to see the man with the saxophone hear him out!! He’s full of knowledge about the square and will perform a few songs for you to hear the difference. He’s amazing! Make sure you tip him!! He’s providing a free service and is a veteran!!
