If you’re walking along Savannah’s historic riverfront, don’t skip Rousakis Plaza Echo Square. At first glance, it looks simple — just a circular brick design with a bold “X” in the center overlooking the Savannah River. But this spot is way more interesting than it seems. I stopped here mainly for the river views. It’s a peaceful place to watch cargo ships glide by, listen to seagulls overhead, and take in that classic Savannah waterfront atmosphere. If you’re traveling with kids (I had my toddler in tow, so I get it), it’s an easy open space where they can move around while you soak up the scenery. Now here’s the part most visitors miss — and I almost did too. Walk to the very center of the circle. Stand directly on the “X.” Speak in a normal voice. What happens next is wild: your voice echoes right back to you, but people standing just a few feet away can’t hear it the same way. It’s a quirky acoustic phenomenon that locals love, and it’s such a fun, unexpected Savannah experience. It’s free, quick, family-friendly, and right in the heart of the Historic District near River Street shops and restaurants. If you’re exploring downtown Savannah, add this to your walking route.
