The Forrest Gump bench is no longer here. There is only a replica in the Savannah History museum. The original bench and brick platform was only a prop and removed after filming. It would be nice if the city would at least put something there to commemorate the movie when people come to visit the spot.
Apr 6, 2026 · Google ReviewI visited Chippewa Square on a Sunday morning around 11:00 in February, and it was one of those quiet, slightly cloudy Savannah days that just feels peaceful. It wasn’t crowded at all, which made it easy to slow down and really take in the space. I actually didn’t even think about the Forrest Gump connection at first — I only realized it when I overheard a nearby tour guide explaining the bench scene to a group. Even without the movie trivia, this square stands on its own. The garden area is beautifully maintained, and the statue of General James Oglethorpe gives it a strong historical presence. It’s surrounded by Savannah icons like the Savannah Theatre and First Baptist Church, so you’re naturally in the middle of the Historic District energy without it feeling overwhelming. If you’re walking Bull Street or doing a self-guided tour, this is an easy and worthwhile stop. It’s not just a movie location — it’s one of those places where Savannah’s history, architecture, and atmosphere all come together. If this helped you, a quick ❤️ means a lot—I’m almost to my Expert Reviewer badge!
