We visited the Tybee Island Marine Science Center on a sunny afternoon and ended up spending over two hours there — way more than we expected for such a compact spot. The live animal exhibits are fantastic: baby loggerhead sea turtles, diamondback terrapins, crabs, fish, and a great touch tank that kept our kids (and us) entertained for ages. We even caught a live feeding demo for one of the juvenile turtles — super cool to watch and the staff explained everything with genuine passion for conservation.f21263 The coastal galleries are well-organized with interactive stations, life-size replicas, a fossil room, and tons of info on local ecosystems, right whales, and barrier island dynamics. The pirate ship playground outside was a huge hit with the little ones, and being right next to the beach made it easy to combine with a walk afterward.29a57a Staff was friendly, knowledgeable, and clearly loves what they do. It’s educational without feeling like a lecture — perfect balance for all ages. Admission is reasonable and your ticket is good all day. Great rainy-day activity too, but even better on a nice day.8f2156 If you’re on Tybee, don’t skip this gem. We really enjoyed the Marine Science Center! It's small but totally worth going. We parked in the public beach parking lot next door, and we walked between the science center, the lighthouse station, a farmer's and craft market, and then down to the beach (paid parking, about $2/hr). They have exhibits about fossils, turtles, whales, the Gullah Geechee culture, and ship's knots. They also have a live section of the center with a horshoe crab, turtles, starfish, hermit crabs, jellyfish, a snake, and even a you guys alligator. It's a great experience for the whole family, and they have a small playground you can viait while you're there!

This place is a great place to learn about local Marine life. Admission is good all day and it's right next to the beach. If you're an adult walking around without kids it may only take 30 minutes to see everything but this place could easily keep kids busy for maybe an hour or more. As soon as we walked in we were right in time for a sea turtle feeding. The staff was very knowledgeable and friendly. They have a handful of ocean/sea life there and I really enjoyed the little sea turtles.

Great place to bring kids and honestly really cool for adults too. Cute giftshop, lots of sea creatures that are catch and release, a touch tank for the littles, very powerful telescope to see the boats out to sea, and a REALLY awesome play area with restrooms right beside it.

An amazing teaching resource and super fun! We (two adults) had the time of our lives here. There was a rescued horseshoe crab during our visit, along with dozens of other native species. Marine science students were on standby to answer any questions we may have had. I especially enjoyed their fossil selection showing off local finds.
