This two-hour guided experience through the historic section of the cemetery was so much more than a stroll among headstones—it was a deep dive into the rich tapestry of Savannah’s and Georgia’s history. Dan is a phenomenal guide. His knowledge of local history is encyclopedic, yet he delivers it with warmth, humor, and a genuine passion for preservation. As we walked, he stopped at the graves of notable figures from Savannah’s past, sharing stories not just about the individuals, but about the families, the symbolism on the headstones, and the cultural significance of the burial plots. It was like watching the city’s history come to life, one story at a time. What makes this tour even more special is that it’s donation-based, and Don is part of the Historical Preservation Society—so you know your contribution is going toward keeping Savannah’s legacy alive. April CassidyMy husband and I had the pleasure of doing a tour with Bonaventure Don a year ago and we couldn’t wait to bring our teen/young adult kids. All of us love history and Don did not disappoint. He has a down-to-earth and sometimes very funny style. We felt like we learned more history about Savannah with him than on some historic tours downtown. He really makes the people buried there “come to life” and though we aren’t usually big fans of being in cemeteries, this one is beautiful and the history is very interesting. Highly recommend.

Nancy SagerWe just finished a tour with Don. We thoroughly enjoyed listening to Don share Bon Aventure stories, headstones symbolism and curious stories of those buried in the cemetery. He kept us entertained with just right of humor. Don provided water and umbrellas (not needed today). The most important thing that I will take away from time with Don is his love, dedication and respect for Bon Aventure. Highly recommended!

Michael A. Ignelzi, Jr.My wife and I took the Bonaventure Cemetery tour with Bonaventure Don yesterday. The tour lasted for 2 hours and 40 minutes. The cemetery was absolutely breathtaking because so many azaleas were in bloom. The tour was fascinating and extremely well done. The tour covered Savannah history and the stories of some of Savannah’s most impactful citizens. Bonaventure Don was funny and quite knowledgeable. We were impressed by his connection to the cemetery (many of his relatives are buried there) and his volunteer work to restore gravestones and monuments that have seen better days. My wife and I spent 7 days in Savannah and the tour with Bonaventure Don was our favorite activity. We highly recommend this tour for anyone who is interested in Savannah history.
