Being one of the oldest wards (created in 1733), this area has seen a diverse array of activity, from slave trade to other civic and political activities. And its name has also seen several changes over time based on different influences. Originally it was named Decker Ward for one of the first Trustees. It was renamed for Sir Henry Ellis, the second Royal Governor of the Colony of Georgia. It was also called Marketplace Square, as it was the center of commerce from the 1730's through the 1950's. Nov 4, 2023 · Google ReviewWhat to say about Wllis Square? Great square with visitor center, benches and in front of many restaurants and bars and shops. Good for great pictures and sitting around. City government isn't playing around, and they require masks! It's great!
Jul 17, 2020 · Google ReviewWe had a blast people-watching while the kids ran through the fountains! Bustling little area of the city...very different vibe than some of the older, gardened squares.
