A restored gem nestled in the heart of Tybee Island a mere 500 feet from the beach and a matter of feet from an old school style private pool measuring 8’ on the deep end. The Royal Palms was built in 1958 and opened in 1961 during the glorious days of family roadtrips and classic, roadside motor courts. Owned and operated by a single family for many years it was bought out in 2020 by an investor group. At this time it was completely remodeled and restored back to its iconic, mid-century retro charm. Pastel colors, vibrant beach vibe. Our classic studio received a facelift but retained its original size which put nicely was cozy. Updated wallpaper, swing arm brass reading lights, firm mattress and retro style furnishings like mini fridge, microwave and Keurig coffee machine. If you are old to have survived being stuffed in a telephone booth with others, then you will be right at home in the bathroom. Toilet barely clears the edge of the walk-in shower (at 6’ I had to put my feet in the shower) and a sink smaller than a dinner plate. But shower itself was good size with a high shower head and plenty of room. A small cart offers some room to place one’s traveling shaving kit and provide H2O products like shampoo, conditioner and lotion. Parking spaces are outside your door (not designated) and thankfully it was relatively quiet as nearly impossible to back out around larger SUVs. Very narrow and tight. Flat screen TVs, WIFI (not real reliable) and wall AC units. Location is a major plus as nearly every inch of parking spaces are on the island is paid parking only. So park your car when you arrive (that way once you are in the horror of getting out of that spot is over) and explore the island on foot. Beach is just across the street (use major streets like 10th Street crossing and not private driveways), Tybee Market IGA grocery store 0.2 miles (5 minutes) and recommended Treylor Park Beach Party for food and drinks 0.4 miles (9 minutes). If you are feeling young and full of energy by the fresh ocean air downtown with its string of restaurants, bars and Tybee Pier and Pavilion is 0.7 miles (16 minutes). After a number of drinks that time and distance may increase. Another recommendation for morning breakfast is The Breakfast Club 0.6 miles (13 minutes). Carrie is a hon. Savannah’s Historic District is 30 miles away and worth the drive but that will require putting on your big boy britches and weaseling out your vehicle. You can do it! Check-in was a breeze as you receive a code for your door entry via text message and Becky in the office was friendly and helpful the one time we did stopped by. Otherwise, didn’t seem to be around much but a number on the door was available if you needed to reach someone.
Oct 9, 2026 · Google ReviewCutest retro motor inn in Tybee! Parking is free (park directly in front of your room). It’s about a block walk across the street from the beach. The hotel room was clean and met our needs for a quick beach getaway. We reserved the studio queen room. If you are claustrophobic, select a larger room. The studio is equipped with a microwave and mini fridge/freezer. The window AC unit was a bit loud but the room stayed extra cool, which was great. Our tv was wonky (color off and darkened screen) but we were only in the room to sleep, so we never really watched tv - although it was on when we were in the room. There was a strong smell of disinfectant that lingered in the room during our stay. This and the fact that the bed mattress did not have a cover/pad over the mattress under the single sheet, were the only real cons. The staff was helpful. We received a call prior to our arrival advising that our room was ready. The pool is situated in the middle of the motor court, however, it looked clean and inviting. The hotel was quiet and we felt safe. There was a text check-out option, which was super convenient. I would definitely stay again for an inexpensive last minute getaway off-season.
Oct 6, 2026 · Google ReviewThis motel is a great deal for the price. It's the staff that make it so. It's clean, they have some nice appliances, included an iron in the room (which I needed). The staff are friendly and accommodating. The location is great, as well.

Sep 24, 2026 · Google ReviewWe enjoyed our stay at Royal Palms. The rooms were clean and we loved the decor. The staff was friendly and helpful. We are already looking forward to our next trip to Tybee.
Sep 18, 2026 · Google ReviewExtremely comfortable and peaceful 2 night stay. Room was VERY clean, bed the perfect firmness for me, air conditioning nice and cold and water nice and hot! Lol The exterior could use a little updating and I wish there was a chair in the room but those are minor things
Sep 15, 2026 · Google ReviewThe Royal Palms lived up to previous reviews. We had a 2 bdrm w/ tvs , a kitchen area that had a full fridge and freezer and microwave, living area and large bathroom. The bathroom and kitchen very clean. The pool right outside our room was very nice with chairs, loungers and umbrellas. We had a wonderful stay! The only thing is they don't provide daily room care but they do provide fresh towels and linens upon request. Becky and Cynthia were so very nice. This was our 2nd trip to Tybee and will return again.
Sep 12, 2026 · Google ReviewGreat place to stay on Tybee! We stayed four nights & the person at the front desk was extremely helpful & friendly with all of our requests. It's a bit of an older hotel and our room was small but everything was clean & comfortable. The punk, teal, & yellow retro vibe is delightful! Thanks for a great stay!
